Touch Gallery is Excited to Announce: True to Form III - “These are Paintings” We are thrilled to announce that our annual August theme, “True to Form III,” has reached its third chapter! This year’s exhibition, titled “These Are Paintings,” will take place in Rooms 103 and 202, showcasing stunning realism artworks from talented artists in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan.

Realism is never the end, but just the beginning of an unanswerable question. When Plato’s “theory of mimesis” begins to conflict with the virtual realities created from the digital age, and as AI learns to replicate our physical world, we can’t help but ask: Why do artists still continue to approach realism through the labor of hand, eye, and soul? The answer lies in that liminal space between precision and imperfection, between objective and subjective, between our world and the artist’s vision. In Okumura Akifumi’s works, traditional Japanese painting techniques capture the relationship between animals, humans and nature. Lin Hao-Bai’s contemplations of urban light and shadow beautifully depict architecture and still life. Wang Hao-Zhun’s paintings of Hong Kong dollars reveal a deeper critique on money and culture. Hong Kong artist Steven Tang pushes the limits of colored pencils, elevating humble food with hyperrealistic drawings. Grace Mak, meanwhile, captures objects with a microscopic precision, blurring reality and fiction. These five artists from Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, each with a unique artistic style, respond to the same eternal question: In a world where technology can replicate reality, for an artist, what is the meaning of “truth”? We invite you into this exhibition space — wander among these philosophical reveries, witness the moment when familiar objects become strange, and seek the most fundamental power of art: its existence, its essence, its truth. 寫實從來不是終點,而是那個無法被解答問題的起點。 當柏拉圖的「模仿理論」(theory of mimesis)開始與數位時代所創造出的虛擬現實產生衝突,當人工智慧逐漸學會重現我們的物理世界,我們不禁要問:為什麼藝術家仍然選擇以手、以眼、以靈魂去追求寫實? 答案存在於那模糊的邊界之間——精準與不完美、客觀與主觀、現實與藝術家眼中的世界之間的曖昧地帶。 在奧村彰史的作品中,傳統日本繪畫技法描繪了動物、人與自然之間的關係;林浩白對都市光影的沉思,呈現出建築與靜物的詩意;王皓諄的港幣系列作品,揭示了對金錢與文化的深層批判。 來自香港的藝術家Steven Tang則以色鉛筆挑戰極限,將日常食物提升為超寫實藝術;而Grace Mak以顯微般的精準度捕捉物件,讓現實與虛構之間的界線變得模糊。 這五位來自日本、台灣與香港的藝術家,各自以獨特的創作語言回應同一個永恆的問題:在一個科技已能複製現實的時代,對藝術家而言,「真實」還意味著什麼? 我們誠摯邀請你走入這個展覽空間,在這些哲學性的凝視中漫遊,見證熟悉物件變得陌生的瞬間,並尋找藝術最根本的力量:它的存在、它的本質、它的真理。
